Today, Fuel, an operating system designed for Ethereum Rollup, announced a strategic partnership with Immunefi, a leading web3 crowdsourced security platform that protects more than $60 billion in assets. The alliance will launch the largest Attackathon event ever, with a total prize pool of $1.3 million. This includes a $1 million Attackathon bonus and a $300,000 project specifically for the first four ecosystem decentralized applications (dApps).
Attackathon is a curated crowdsourced security audit by elite security researchers, combined with a comprehensive community education program. The event will stress-test the Fuel codebase and its first four ecosystem projects to identify and address potential vulnerabilities, while cultivating a community of security researchers associated with its technology and the entire ecosystem ahead of Fuel's Q3 2024 mainnet launch. It offers an Immunefi limited-time code review program to ensure that the best security researchers can participate. Unlike traditional audits, Fuel's program will publish important reports in real time while it is running, and projects do not need to wait for the audit to end to assess potential vulnerabilities. In addition, participants will also receive "Fuel Education Week", which will include educational blog posts, live broadcasts of the technology stack, and interviews and Q&A sessions with well-known security researchers.
Unlike existing virtual machines (VMs) designed for Layer 1 (L1) blockchains or general computing systems, Fuel provides the first virtual machine designed specifically for Ethereum Rollup, unlocking new capabilities for it. Fuel can meet users' growing demand for transaction bandwidth by executing transactions in parallel, while ensuring a high-quality user experience without sacrificing security or decentralization. By solving parallelization, state-minimized execution, and interoperability (PSI), Fuel allows any chain builder to deploy highly scalable Rollups and application chains to solve any type of use case.
“Fuel will usher in a new era for Ethereum Rollups, and we want to ensure we have the best security standards in place,” said Nick Dodson, CEO and co-founder of Fuel Labs. “Partnering with Immunefi is a critical step in achieving this goal, underscoring our commitment to securing the ecosystem ahead of mainnet launch and beginning to foster a security-first culture among all contributors.”
Immunefi is the largest web3 security community with over 45,000 researchers. The company protects over $600 billion in user assets for projects such as Chainlink, Wormhole, MakerDAO, TheGraph, Synthetix, Polygon, Optimism, and more. Immunefi has paid out the highest bug bounties in the software industry, totaling over $95 million, saving users over $25 billion. Currently, Immunefi offers over $161 million in bounty rewards. Among Immunefi researchers, 80%’s projects have found vulnerabilities that were missed by audits.
“We are excited to partner with Fuel to launch the industry’s largest Attackathon and support them in building a security-focused community around their technology and ecosystem,” said Mitchell Amador, Founder and CEO of Immunefi. “Security is always a critical and ongoing concern. We not only invite top security talent to stress-test Fuel, but also further educate them on key technical aspects throughout the program.”
Fuel’s Attackathons will offer an in-depth educational component, providing dedicated resources such as techniques and Attackathon guides to make it easier for the broader security researcher community to understand and participate more deeply. Immunefi will host a Fuel Education Week, where security researchers will learn about Fuel’s techniques through regular live broadcasts, Q&A sessions, and a wealth of curated educational resources. A dedicated Discord channel will also be available to provide personalized support, where security researchers can directly contact the Fuel and Immunefi teams to further answer questions about the program, techniques, and resources.
